WOW! I'm still on Cloud 9 after this morning's events. Before I go into detail about what transpired, I wanted to share my sincere gratitude to Dr. Sharon Kennedy and her vet tech, Melissa for their amazing, life-saving work today. Without them, we would have had a devastating ending to this story, instead of the miraculous one you're about to read.
Yesterday we brought a sweet new mama-to-be into the ELM family. Well, our timing couldn't have been more perfect as Maeve went into labour within 12 hours of her arrival. She delivered two beautiful boys shortly after 1:30 am (on September 30, 2015) and showed no sign of adding to her family. Alyssa was dutiful in waking every half hour to hour to check on her and all was well. Around 8 am while we were chatting, I asked her to ensure her stomach was soft and I left for work at the vet. Shortly after, she called and said she needs to bring her in. Her stomach wasn't soft at all and she was certain there were more kittens inside.
An X-ray revealed two more babies. At this point we didn't know if they would even be alive but we were very grateful for Dr. Sharon and Melissa quickly getting her in for an emergency c-section.
When we run into these type of "problems" we don't think of money. We don't care about that. We know we will find a way to make it work, all that matters is our precious baby who has no voice. The sweet mama we now call Maeve, her two babies nursing, and the two babies that are still literally trapped inside of her.
The moment Maeve was opened up, it was discovered that these two little ones were wedged up into their mama's diaphragm and were NOT coming out any time soon. Because Maeve successfully delivered her first two kittens, that meant her cervix was now open to bacteria, which in turn would have inevitably led to sepsis. It is due to the quick actions on everyone's part that we now have four sweet, hungry little babies. I always say there's a reason why we get who we do. Clearly, this time it was to save the life of a mama and her four babies.
I send out a special thank you to my good friend and business partner, Alyssa for her diligence and insight with Maeve. Without her, Maeve's fate would have been far different.
I would also like to thank those of you who make up our village. Your support, your prayers, your positive and healing thoughts, your comments, your "Likes", your kindness, and most of all, for being part of ELM. You are all who make us who we are. Without you, there would be no ELM. We appreciate each and everyone of you more than you'll ever know.
We do have a balance owing on Maeve if anyone is able to help us with medical care. With my discount, Dr. Sharon's kindness, and supporters, we've knocked a good chunk off her emergency surgery. Our balance remains at approximately $580 taxes included. If you are able to help we offer a variety of ways to do so. You may call our vet directly at (905) 336-2347 to make a donation or you may scroll down on our home page to the donate button. Should you wish to make a donation via letter mail, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for our mailing address.
Again, thank you. We are truly grateful for each and everyone of you ❤️
