I've been sitting here watching the "Teeterville" kittens for the last hour or so. For the past month they have taken over my main bathroom where I've been playing nursemaid and wondering each day when I would finally see them recover from one of the nastiest bugs I've ever seen take over a family of felines. When they first came here I don't think I even realized just how deathly ill they were. I just started to clean, and clean, and clean. Eye drops, ear drops, nose drops, bottle feeding, fecal testing, weekly vet visits, and I won't even bother mentioning the costs involved to keep these poor sweet kittens alive.
Now they are approximately 11 weeks old but they play like they are 8 weeks old. To watch them now, you'd never have known they sat on death's door almost 5 weeks ago. Now I have a bathroom that's completely destroyed and to be honest, I love it. They are finally playing with toys, jumping, exploring, and having the type of healthy fun all kittens should. And that makes me happy.
They are no longer lethargic and sleeping all the time. They don't look at me with watery and goopy eyes. Their noses are clean and not crusted over. They are full of life and it's amazing to look back at those pictures from August 11. We had thought to take 2, then maybe 4 but at the most, 6... Survival mode and panic kicked in and kittens were just grabbed as they could be caught. We didn't know how many we had until we got home and counted 8. We weren't sure if they'd all live, if they would be blind or what hidden diseases they were carrying. But look! Here we are!!! Beautiful, attention seeking, adventurous, curious eyes... Loving life and they each will enjoy a long one now because they mattered.
I say thank you to the farm that allowed them to go. Thank you, to my good friend who took the time with her daughter to go out and assess the situation, and thank you to my amazing vet, Dr. Sharon for her commitment to life, love, and support. We are all a family, and these are products of love ❤️
