I got a phone call today from a well known pet food store chain with the offer of (expired) dry cat food donations, approximately 4-5 bags. I was pretty excited until I heard what else was said. This person had a "rescue cat" that wasn't fitting in with their other two cats. The rescue they normally work with is full so that is why I was getting the call.
So the donation of the four bags of expired cat food are only if I take in a cat these people no longer want. This cat has a home, food, water, and other many great bonuses having a home offers but I'm to take in this cat over a stray cat on my waiting list that has no food, no shelter, is fighting the elements, wild animals, cars, and parasites that infect their intestines. I'm sorry. I don't need your expired food. Not only are you bitterly taking food away from the rescue you normally give this food to, you are giving up on a cat that has no voice. I feel sad for this cat, but he has a home. If you don't want to work with him, you need to work for him, not try to bribe or "make a deal" over his care. He's only worth 4 bags of expired cat food to you? Wow.
Sorry for the negative blog. I do my best to stay positive and ask the same of my followers. Perhaps it's because my mom lost her Angel this week at such a young age. Perhaps it's because I'm still worried about Mookie's mama and her two siblings who haven't been seen since Sunday morning. Mama hasn't been around since Wednesday morning. Perhaps it's because of Skye. So disheveled, tiny, and innocent. They are all innocent and all of them were thrown away. I'm saddened by society today where cats, dogs, guinea pigs, rats, ferrets, and all other types of pets are viewed as disposable and unworthy. Well, they are valuable and unless people are educated about this, nothing will ever change.
How I wish I was the type of person that gave out pertinent details like name, phone number, and the location and chain of your store. You would lose business very fast. I just hope you are reading this and that you give those 4 bags of expired cat food to the rescue you "usually work with" despite your bitterness over them not taking in your cat and instead are rescuing cats and kittens off the street that don't have homes. Stop trying to take the easy route out and make an effort for your cat(s). They are all worth far more than 4 bags of expired cat food.
Please take your "donation" elsewhere. I have homeless cats to save.
